From College to Labor Leadership
Dennis L. Martire’s journey in labor advocacy began with a government degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1986. Joining the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) in 1990, he has since dedicated over 30 years to improving the lives of laborers. As vice president and regional manager of LIUNA’s Mid-Atlantic region, Martire’s leadership has driven significant change.
A Career Built on Service
Martire’s career with LIUNA began as an international representative, followed by roles as assistant director and assistant for the construction department. By 2000, he was assistant regional manager, and in 2002, he was elected vice president and regional manager. His steady rise reflects his unwavering commitment to the labor movement.
Unionizing for a Stronger Workforce
A defining moment in Martire’s career was his leadership in establishing LIUNA Local 11 during Virginia’s Route 495 Hot Lanes Project. By empowering workers to form a union, he secured a landmark victory, with over 200 laborers joining the new chapter. This achievement strengthened worker representation in Virginia’s construction industry.
Improving Wages and Working Conditions
In Maryland’s Montgomery County, Dennis L. Martire collaborated with officials to pass prevailing wage laws, ensuring fair pay for laborers.
